Home / Day Tours / West Iceland / Snaefellsnes Peninsula Tour with home-cooked meal by Minibus
Join for a full day magical tour to the Snæfellsnes peninsula, a world of diversity. Observing volcanic phenomena, discovering Iceland’s dramatic coastline, and experiencing a more spiritual and mystical side of Iceland is the plan for the day but under a different approach. This minibus tour allows your guide to adapt the tour according to you and the weather. This is what makes this road trip between friends unique. You will just go with the flow!
You get picked up from your accommodation in the morning and you will travel along the coastline of West Iceland towards the Snæfellsnes peninsula. On this Snæfellsnes peninsula tour, you will first pass by Eldborg Volcanic Crater and its lava field area. The recent volcanic eruptions there took place after the settlement between the 10th and the 11th centuries.
Next, you will reach the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Kirkjufell Mountain rises 463 meters above sea level and is the landmark of the small town of Grundarfjörður. It is one of the most popular photography spots in Iceland (for a reason), so be sure to get a picture for your own collection! You will drive through Ólafsvík (a small town that used to be one of the larger trading ports in Iceland in the 17th and 18th centuries) and then all around the peninsula where you will have the chance to observe Snæfellsjökull Glacier. This glacier is the starting point of the Journey Into the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne and one of the seven main energy centers of the earth.
You will then discover small communities as Dritvík and its beautiful black pebble stone beach (one of the most beautiful beaches in Iceland), Hellnar and its protruding cliffs or Arnarstapi and its beautiful rock formations. When you stop there have a look at the huge sculpture of Bárður Snæfellsás the mythological figure who is half a troll and half a man and the protector of Snæfellsnes.
Local Meal included on this Snæfellsnes Peninsula Tour
During the day you will also stop and have a simple local meal at Lýsuhóll Guesthouse, a small family homestead, located on the south coast of the peninsula. Many Iceland experts consider this area to be the most beautiful part of the country. You might also want to check their horse’s stable. Drive back to Reykjavík with a lot of beautiful memories!
What Makes this Snæfellsnes Tour Unique
This tour is different than others as it goes with the flow and you do not have a fixed schedule. Your guide adapts the tour according to the number of guests, to your feelings about the places and to the weather. This what makes this tour unique as nobody will discover the same things. You will travel with a small group in a minibus which will give you a very personal feeling about this tour and easier access to your guide. This is not a tour anymore but a road trip with friends.
