Langjokull Ice Cave & Snowmobiling tour

Entering the magical world of a glacier is indeed remarkable and exciting. This tour combines the two most interesting activities possible on Langjokull glacier – an energetic snowmobiling tour and the visit of a clear blue ice cave. Explore the untouched beauty and raw nature of Langjokull, Iceland’s second largest glacier.

Langjokull glacier is Iceland’s second-largest glacier and home to the largest man-made ice cave in the world. This cave is magnificent, wrapped in dramatically clear blue ice. It is one of the very few ice caves in Iceland that is possible to visit all year.

This combo tour starts from Jaki Base Camp, located close to Húsafell in the West of Iceland. You will begin the tour on the snowmobile, where you will enjoy an adrenaline-filled ride up to the glacier. During this thrilling ride, you will have breathtaking views over the surrounding area.

Langjokull Ice Cave – The Largest Man-Made Ice Cave Tunnel in the World

The ice cave itself is located 1,260 meters (4,134 feet) above sea level and goes 500 meters (1,640 feet) deep into the ice. After arriving at the entrance of the cave, your guide will walk with you through the cave, showing you various rooms and inform you of the structure and all details of the cave. You will explore the ice cave through the illuminated interior of the glacier and have a look at ice formations, smaller caverns, and beautiful blue glacial walls.

During the tour, you will admire sublimes shades of blue and you will learn more about the frozen heart of a glacier. You finish the tour by driving back on your snowmobile to Jaki Base Camp. This gives you another chance to enjoy the view over the Icelandic highlands.

Please note that road #550, leading to Jaki base camp, is a rough gravel road, only suitable for 4×4 vehicles and open during summer. We highly recommend booking the shuttle service from Húsafell for a small extra fee. The shuttle ride takes approximately 30 minutes. The tour departs from Jaki base camp approximately 40 minutes after the scheduled departure time from Húsafell.

Húsafell departure time: 10:00 and 12:30
