Skaftafell Ice Cave Tour With Glacier Walk Included

Be prepared to see some of the most beautiful shades of blue on a glacier! Visiting an ice cave is one of the most exciting and awe-inspiring things one can do among the most adventurous activities in Iceland. By joining this tour, you will not only visit an ice cave but also do some glacier hiking!

It is safe to visit an ice cave only when the rivers and the water flow inside the glacier freeze, therefore it is only possible to visit natural ice caves between the months of October to March. If you happen to be in Iceland at this time of the year, lucky you! Do not miss the chance to see this unique phenomenon which will leave you with an out of this world experience.

The meeting point for this tour is in Skaftafell National Park. There you will meet your guide who prepares you with the necessary equipment to guarantee your safety on the glacier. During this adventurous tour, you will visit an ice cave that is located high up on the glacier and you will walk on the glacier as well. So, you do not have to book another tour for glacier hiking!

After 15 minutes of driving, you will reach the Falljökull glacier and your guide will lead you to your glacier adventure by hiking on the glacier with magnificent views and inside the ice cave where you will spend 15-20 minutes, taking photos of this unforgettable place!

Ice caves form naturally each year and are shaped by flowing water which enters the glacier from cracks and crevasses and over time they get bigger by erosion and melting. Your guide will choose the safest ice cave at the time of your visit. The temperature must be well below the freezing point for an ice cave to be considered safe to visit. The ice caves you will visit on this tour are normally not as big as the so-called crystal caves, but it will be normally less crowded and will give you a more personal experience inside the ice cave.

Please take note that the meeting point of the tour is Skaftafell National Park, and you need to arrange your transportation there yourself. In winter, driving time is usually affected by road conditions, so please make sure that you give yourself enough time for reaching the meeting point.
