Nothing is more enjoyable than visiting an authentic farm and riding a horse among lava fields covered in moss or snow-covered mountains, rocky terrain, passing small waterfalls just 15 minutes outside of Reykjavík.
The small but amazingly strong Icelandic horse has played a vital role in Icelandic history. In recorded history, which spans over 900 years, no horses have been imported to Iceland. This isolation has preserved certain traits lost to other European horses. Among these are the five gaits the horse is famous for.
The family-owned farm provides good service. Capable and attentive guides will make you feel taken good care of and comfortable on your horse. They will select the perfect horse for you and your horse riding abilities although no riding experience is required.
They will make sure you have adequate equipment and clothing and then they will give you basic instructions on how to make the horse stop, slow down or turn which makes the experience more relaxed and enjoyable.
Individuals, families and groups are welcome. The horse farm is located on the way to Þingvellir National Park. You can visit it on your own by car or you can also book a transfer from your accommodation in Reykjavík.
