Join an unforgettable guided tour inside the volcano Þríhnúkagígur. You enter the volcano in an open cable lift through the top crater and you will go to the bottom of its 4,000-year-old magma chamber, once filled with steaming hot lava. This is an out-of-this-world experience!
You get picked up from your hotel in Reykjavík and the drive to the Bláfell Mountain takes about 30 minutes. After a 45-50 minute hike, you reach the volcano Þríhnúkagígur in the middle of a lava field. The entrance to the volcano is relatively narrow and you will go down in an open cable lift.
You will go 120 meters / 400 feet to the bottom of the 4,000-year-old magma chamber. Inside the volcano, you have enough time to enjoy the wonderful colors and you can take as many photos as you want. Not many people have the possibility to have such a close encounter with a volcano and you will get a really strong sense of geology, time, and the incredible powers of the Earth. Before hiking back to the road and a transfer back to Reykjavík you can enjoy a traditional Icelandic meat soup.
