Lofthellir Lava Cave Myvatn

Entering the Lofthellir lava cave is a magical adventure. The colors and the ice formations are incredible. Listening to absolute silence in the perfect darkness is an experience not to be missed. Visit Lofthellir lava cave with the greatest natural ice sculptures currently known in Iceland.

Lofthellir is a 370-meter-long cave with many different chambers of ice formations that will amaze you from the beginning. Lofthellir has the greatest natural ice sculptures currently known in an Icelandic lava cave. The tour is appropriate for everyone who is ready to crawl, squeeze, climb up, slide down and walk on the ice and in the darkness.

You don’t have to be in great physical condition for this excursion, but rather agile. There are a few obstacles within the cave that will be a small challenge for taller adults or those with balance issues. The floor of the cave is covered with ice and water and the temperature inside the cave is around 0°C. This is definitely a tour for more adventurous people but in the end, you will definitely not regret that you made it!
