Holidays to Greenland for 4 days – East Greenland

East Greenland is an isolated and very special place. Although it is just a short flight from Iceland here you come closest to original Greenland. The town of Tasiilaq lies just South of the Arctic Circle and offers plenty of possibilities to travelers. Visit breathtaking ice fjords, go on an unforgettable whale watching tour, see an impressive fjord filled with icebergs or go on a wonderful day hike and explore the area around Tasiilaq. There are numberless reasons to go for unforgettable holidays to Greenland.

We recommend booking a Greenland tour as early as possible as availability is limited and prices for flights normally raise during the year. A helicopter brings you from Kulusuk to Tasiilaq which is only 20 kilometers away. Have a look at your hotel and explore the charming town in the afternoon. We recommend to visit the Ammassalik Museum located in the town‘s old church. The museum has a collection of traditional artifacts ranging from Kayaks to wooden masks. Enjoy the colorful Greenlandic houses and have a look at the small harbor in the city center. Interesting is also a visit of the local supermarket. In the evening you will have a welcome dinner in the restaurant of your accommodation.

You have two full days to explore the highlights of East Greenland. We highly recommend to join a guided tour. Plenty of different tours are available and our local partner will arrange everything for you based on your interests and also the weather. We highly recommend a boat tour to a glacier and you should also visit the floating ice in the Sermilik Fjord. Interesting is also a whale watching tour where you have the chance to see minke whales, humpback whales and fin whales. You can also go on hike and explore the surroundings of Tasiilaq on your own. Hiking maps are available at your accommodation and your local host will assist you with everything needed.

Day 4 | Boat Tour to the Airport and Flight back to Reykjavik

Today it is time to say good bye to the little town Tasiilaq dominated by the ice cap and steep mountain ranges. In the morning you can stroll for a last time around the city. Everywhere you will see the Greenland dogs which are so important for the locals especially during winter time. A boat brings you from Tasiilaq back to the airport in Kulusuk and you can enjoy once more the huge and impressive icebergs. Enjoy a hot dog in the airport (yes, Greenland belongs to Denmark), get a stamp in your passport and fly back to Reykjavik – hopefully with many unforgettable memories and some great photos.
