Day 1 | Stunning waterfalls and exciting glacier walk
You will be picked up at 8:00 AM from one of the designated locations in Reykjavík, which can be found >here<. Next, you will be on your way to explore the natural wonders of the South Coast. After making your way through the mountain road to Hveragerði and admiring its geothermally active surroundings, you will be getting closer to the first stop of your tour – the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Don’t skip the chance to walk behind it! Bear in mind that it is quite of a wet walk so remember to wear a raincoat. The next stop you will be making is the Skógafoss waterfall, a huge and powerful cascade located just by the main road nr. 1. It‘s 60m high and 25m wide. Depending on the conditions, you might be able to walk up the path and see the waterfall and the panorama of the Skógá river from above basking in the bright summer sunlight.
Next on your schedule, it is time for an adrenaline-filled activity! After you reach the wonderful Skaftafell National Park, you will take part in a breathtaking glacier walk on an outlet glacier spawning from the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull. You will be led by an experienced guide who will share their vast knowledge about this natural wonder. Skaftafell itself has been used as a filming location many times, including the famous series “Game of Thrones”. After an adventurous day, you will be on your way to your accommodation for the night in the Southeast.
Day 2 | Majestic glacier lagoon and awe-inspiring black beach
Let’s roll with day number two of your adventure! The first stop is Jökulsárlón, also known as the famous glacier lagoon. It is 200m deep and the view of the icebergs floating on its surface is breathtaking, especially in the almost never-setting summer sun. They are constantly moving and breaking off the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, an outlet of the Vatnajökull glacier. You might even get a chance to spot some seals swimming in the lagoon! Just on the opposite side of the road, you will find the popular and outstanding Diamond Beach. The icebergs from the glacier lagoon move towards the ocean and once they reach it, they are quickly thrown back to the shore broken into smaller pieces, sparkling like diamonds in the daylight.
Next and the final spot you will be visiting is the famous Reynisfjara, the famous black sand beach. It is one of the most scenic spots in Iceland with its massive basalt stacks and the wild Atlantic ocean. You will also be able to see Dýrhólaey promontory in the distance but remember to watch out for the sneaky waves! After two days of fun and exploration packed with activities and we hope memorable times, you will return to Reykjavik.
