Everyone who comes to Iceland for the first time asks: ‘’What is the must-see place that I should not miss?’’. Well, the answer is simple: Go on a Golden Circle tour. This guided minibus tour gives you the opportunity to visit some of the best sites in Iceland. Besides the visits of Þingvellir National Park, Geyser geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall, you will also make some special extra stops.
In the morning, your guide picks you up from your accommodation in Reykjavik. The first stop on your golden circle tour is at Kerið, a volcanic crater lake. You can walk around the top of the crater and even go down to water level. The caldera is approximately 3,000 years old and its red volcanic rock is very unique. After Kerið, your guide will show you Friðheimar Tomato Farm. There you can learn more about greenhouse horticulture in Iceland.
Gullfoss and Geyser – The Famous Two on your Golden Circle Tour
Later you will visit Gullfoss, Iceland’s most famous waterfall. After a lunch break, you will continue to the geothermal active valley of Haukadalur. There you will see Iceland’s most impressive and famous geyser, called Strokkur. Strokkur erupts about every 4 to 8 minutes, sometimes up to 40 meters high.
Your guide will also make a stop at a local family farm and we highly recommend trying their amazing ice cream. The Golden Circle tour is completed with a visit of Þingvellir National Park. Þingvellir, famous for its beauty and geological and historical value, was accepted as UNESCO’s heritage site in 2004. There, the Eurasian and American tectonic plates meet and you can walk in between the plates.
Before returning to Reykjavik, your final stop is at a horse farm where pett and take photos of the famous Icelandic horses. After that, your guide brings you back to Reykjavik and drops you off at your accommodation.
