Home / Multi-Day Tours / Greenland / Ilulissat for 2 Days – West Greenland Holiday
Enjoy a once in a lifetime trip to Greenland where you visit the Ilulissat Icefjord. You will cruise around the giant icebergs on the fjord, which is located 250 kilometers north of the arctic circle. Ilulissat is an absolutely stunning travel destination and easily reachable from Iceland. The name of the town Ilulissat means: “icebergs” in Kalaallisut, which is the native language of the Inuit. Once you see the views of the town, you will understand why – on the water you will see a plethora of gigantic icebergs that have broken off the vast Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. In 2004, the Icefjord was declared a UNESCO world heritage site because of its uniqueness and unparalleled beauty. For an unforgettable experience in the Arctic, we recommend combining this two day Greenland holiday with one of our Iceland tours, such as the express Iceland in 8 days self-drive package.
We recommend booking a Greenland tour as early as possible as availability is limited and prices for flights normally rise during the year. Please note that the flights to/from Greenland are the most expensive part of this tour package. You can also add extra nights in Ilulissat to make the most out of your Greenland holiday.

Ilulissat combines all the magical elements of Greenland, the big blue icebergs, North of Arctic Circle, Greenland Dogs, and the wilderness. Sermeq Kujalleq, the the world’s fastest glacier is nearby Ilulissat. It advances 40 meters daily and creates 46 cubic kilometers of icebergs annually.
Almost every visitor in Ilulissat chooses to try this boat trip among the icebergs at least once. During one year, more than 48 km3 of ice flows into the fiord. The result is gigantic icebergs, which can be more than 100 meters on each side and with a height on more than 100 meters above the water surface. These giants strand at the end of the fiord, and that gives us the opportunity to sail among them.
The icebergs are beautiful in every kind of weather; in the sunshine the contrasts are very clear, the blue shades are seen best when it is cloudy and the midnight sun casts a unique glow on the icebergs during the night.
Midnight sun in Ilulissat lasts from May 21st to July 24th. The midnight/evening sun gives the icebergs a unique play of colors that people return to experience again and again. Sailing during the night with the sun still shining is a fantastic and unusual experience; you do not want to be without, while visiting Ilulissat.
