Welcome to Iceland! This is where your adventure begins! Once you have picked up your luggage and passed customs, you will be welcomed by your private chauffeur, who will be transferring you to your accommodation in downtown Reykjavík.
Upon arrival in Iceland, you will start your adventure right away with a stop at the famous Blue Lagoon, for a nice hot soak in the milky blue waters. Enjoy a beverage or two, and ease the jet lag away in total relaxation. Then, head to the capital and check in to your hotel located in the heart of the city. Please note that if your flight lands in the night, the Blue Lagoon entrance can be adjusted and included on departure day. The Blue Lagoon is located only 15-minute from Keflavík International airport.
In the afternoon, get ready for a night out, but first – it’s time for school. No need for pencils and notebooks though, just keep your taste glands in check, as you will be learning all about some Icelandic beer! Yes indeed, an educational 60-minute course at a local microbrewery, where you will taste a variety of beers, accompanied with delicious finger food and snacks. Afterwards, a night on the town! Stroll through the city centre and enjoy endless possibilities, when it comes to bars, cafes and restaurants.
Today, you will be picked up from your hotel in the morning to join an adventurous small group tour. This time around, you will be visiting a lava tunnel, located just 30 minutes away from Reykjavík. Helmets, headlights and all specialized equipment are included but do make sure to wear warm clothes and sturdy shoes, as you will be spending 3-4 hours in the tunnels, hiking on rough terrain. This adventurous journey takes you to the very end of a deep lava tunnel, where impressive lava falls and other natural monuments await. The tour is about 5 hours long, including the pick-up and drop-off, so you can expect to be back in town sometime before 16:00.
Freshen up, have a change of clothes if you need, and get in the mood of a night out in Reykjavík. Tonight, you will be visiting Perlan (The Pearl), the spaceship-looking, glass dome building located on top of Öskjuhlíð; an outdoors area close to the city centre. Firstly, you will visit the ‘Glaciers & Ice Caves’ exhibition, which illustrates the glaciers of Iceland. Here you will find the first “indoor ice cave” in the world, located in the middle of Reykjavík!
Once you have learned a thing or two about the bleak future of our fragile glaciers, you will head up to the 4th floor, where you will find an amazing viewing deck with a 360° view of Reykjavík and its surroundings. Guests are able to listen to the descriptions of the view and the landmarks of the city in 5 different languages. Now, for the “raisin at the end of the sausage”, as we Icelanders say (meaning “last but not least”), you have a reserved table up on the 5th floor’s restaurant; Út Í Bláinn. Dine under the beautiful midnight sun, or the stars and northern lights (depending on the season). A wonderful experience to top off your stay here in Iceland. Later tonight, we recommend partying in downtown Reykjavik.
Today you will be exploring the famous Golden Circle, gourmet style! You will be picked up in the morning, and joining a small group tour via minibus. You will be visiting all three major attractions of the Golden Circle; Þingvellir National Park, Geysir hot spring and Gullfoss waterfall, along with other smaller/shorter stops along the way.
On this tour, you will not only experience Icelandic nature but you will be getting a glimpse of Icelandic culinary and culture at the same time! Everything from small snacks to authentic Icelandic courses and a shot of the one true Icelandic liquor; Brennivín. Some would say it is a vital part of travelling, getting to know local food traditions, and that is exactly what this tour is about! Once the circle is complete, you will be driven back to your accommodation in Reykjavík.
Today is your last day on this beautiful island in the north. If your flight is in the afternoon, you still have time to do some last-minute shopping, a morning walk by the seashore, or a nice brunch in town.
From your hotel, your private chauffeur will be picking you up, and driving you to Keflavik International Airport. If you have an afternoon flight and were not able to visit the Blue Lagoon upon arrival, today is your chance to do so! Thank you very much for travelling with Iceland Unlimited!
